In 2005 the Big Hole Watershed Committee recently formed a weed committee whose goals are to create a long-term strategy and guidance for managing weed issues within the entire Big Hole basin.  The BHWC Weed Committee consists of a volunteer board.  The committee meets once a month with subcommittee meetings when necessary.  In May of 2005, the committee hired a Weed Coordinator to facilitate their goals through a Noxious Weed Trust Fund Grant. 

 Mission Statement

The mission of the Big Hole Watershed Weed Committee (BHWWC) is to provide landowners and users of the Big Hole Watershed with support through education and financial means to control noxious weeds while maintaining the integrity of the river and environment.

 Objectives

Short Term Goals

    • Double the number of landowner weed management participation from 175 individuals to 350 individuals and double the number of acres in weed management from 6,000 to 12,000 acres.
    • Develop & organize a successful annual fall fundraising event.
    • Participate in development of a Basin-wide Weed Management Strategy.
    • Organize 10 educational community events in the Big Hole Basin.
    • Promote & organize weed spray and weed pull days.
    • Begin Grant Writing Request Process

Program Evaluation

The Big Hole Watershed Weed Committee long-term goals and work plan will be reviewed on an annual basis during the December meeting and approved by the committee at the January meeting.  Short-term goal evaluation will be completed on a month-by-month basis.  Problems and adjustments may be addressed and updated at required.
