Development Setbacks

The BHWC Contributed one-third of the cost to develop a 100-year floodplain map for the mainstem of the Big Hole River.  This document provides floodplain managers one of the tools they need to provide for public safety and protection of the river.  Because of the care with which this project was developed, Montana's floodplain supervisor will guarantee to FEMA the floodplain maps developed through this process.  You can view this document at:  http://www.dtm-websolutions.com/Big_Hole_FP/

The BHWC helped four Montana counties develop a land use plan for the Big Hole basin.  It took a three-year process to get the plan implemented.  The land-use plan defines development setbacks from the high watermark of the Big Hole River.  A nine-member citizen advisory board representing Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Beaverhead, Butte-Silverbow and Madison Counties and the BHWC is charged with reviewing development requests and making recommendations to local governing bodies.

The nine members of the board are:

Linda Bouck Anaconda Deer Lodge County

Doris Fisher Madison County

Rick Hartz Beaverhead County

Steve Hess Butte Silver-Bow County

Harold Peterson - Chairman (Beaverhead Co. Representative)

Sam Novich - Vice Chairman (Madison Co. Representative)

Liz Jones - Beaverhead Co. Representative

Ray Weaver - BHWC Representative

Ray Tilman - Anaconda Deer Lodge Co. Representative
