Grayling Recovery

The Big Hole River is the home to the last native population of fluvial arctic grayling in the lower 48 states.  Historically, these fish were distributed throughout the entire upper Missouri River system, including the Madison, Gallatin, Jefferson and Beaverhead Rivers.  Today, the grayling exist in less than one percent of their native range.  While these fish can occasionally be found throughout the Big Hole River system, they live primarily in the upper river near the community of Wisdom.
